# naming

## Ideation

1. Restate the role, audience, and desired character.
2. Generate distinct conceptual territories, not spelling variants.
3. Filter names that are generic, cartoonish, over-literal, difficult to say, or dependent on explaining a joke.
4. Rank a short list and recommend one with a tradeoff.

Example for a downtime visibility tool:

- **Cadence:** continuity and operating rhythm; broad enough for a product system.
- **Relay:** passing actionable context between shifts; more operational.
- **Interval:** time and measurement; precise but cooler.

Recommendation: **Cadence** for a refined product whose value is restoring rhythm, subject to availability checks.

## Shipping-ready

An ideation winner is not a shipping-ready name. Before claiming readiness, check relevant trademark classes and jurisdictions, company and app-store conflicts, domains and social handles, pronunciation, localization, and search ambiguity. Record sources and dates. If those checks were not actually performed, say `Trademark, domain, handle, and market availability are unverified.` Never imply clearance from a quick search.
